Turkish man sentenced to six years in prison for killing wife’s lesbian lover

A man who stabbed his wife’s girlfriend to death was sentenced to 24 years in prison but granted a sentence reduction to a prison term of six years and eight months because he was provoked in the “lesbian murder,” according to a news release from KAOS GL, a gay rights organization based in Turkey.

Yasar Huseyin Yardimci was tried at Istanbul No. 2 multiple-judge court, the type of court utilized in Turkey for serious criminal cases, the group said in its press release. He was convicted of stabbing Yelda Yildirim, KAOS GL reported. Chief Justice Ahment Ulucak wrote a dissenting opinion, stating, “Yasar Huseyin Yardimci didn’t defend himself while committing this crime therefore the judgment should be accordingly,” the group’s press statement stated.
