KAOS Cultural Center

The KAOS Cultural Center represents another substantial step towards progress that has been achieved by KAOS GL. Before the Cultural Center was opened, homosexual life in Turkey was confined to the private sphere–homes, clubs and Turkish baths. We realized that to foster the recognition of homosexuals as a group, we had to expand our public outlets beyond just a few well-known streets in big cities. We felt that it was essential to create a place of our own that extended beyond the ghettos that marginalized us by our sexual orientation. At the same time, KAOS GL needed a meeting place. Therefore, we converted an apartment into a setting that incorporated a library and a café, as well as a meeting room.
