Kaos GL Cultural Center Was Attacked
On July 23, 2004 when we came to the cultural center at 9:30 in the morning, we saw that two windows’ glasses were broken.
Two big pieces of concrete smashed the windows and fell into the conference room’s table. This attack is clearly directed on us because our cultural center is located at the sixth floor of the apartment and only our windows were smashed.
Lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders are everywhere, but so are hatred and homophobia. So far we don’t know who attempted this attack
This is clearly an intrusion and threat to the visibility and rights of the Turkish LGBT community. The attack to KAOS GL targeted the people who defend the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders; in other words human rights and human rights movement were targeted.
As we have experienced all over the world, the more visible the freedom of homosexuals, the more intensified is the homophobia and hatred towards us. Hatred is a very right word to choose because when we choose to live our lives as free homosexuals, we are being subjected to various threats and attacks.
This attack is a violation of basic human rights. We, lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transngenders are facing these obstacles everyday in our families, schools, jobs, streets at all levels. We will continue to gather and fight for our freedom and equality.
