UK MEP targeted as Turkish gays fight for equality

An organisation that aims to protect the LGBT rights of the Turkish gay community has appealed to Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), in a bid to improve their status in the country before talks are held about it joining the EU.

Letter to European Officials about the New Turkish Penal Code

Kaos GL issued press statement and mailed a letter to representatives of some European political figures. In the letter Kaos GL asked them to persuade Turkish government officials and the Turkish Parliament to make amendments to the Penal Law in order to address discrimination and oppression toward Turkish LGBT people.

Mehmet Loves Peace/ Baris* !..
Freedom for Conscientious/Total Objector Mehmet Tarhan..!.

Mehmet Tahran, a gay and a conscientious/total objector in Turkey, was taken into custody by police on April 8, 2005, in Izmir where he went to work in a book fair. He was handed over to the recruiting office and then to a gendarmarie outpost. Because he continues his disobedience, he is now being kept in a cell in a military prison.

Turkey: Concerns about new Penal Code should be addressed

On March 23, 2005, Amnesty International expressed its concern about the new Turkish Penal Code. One of the issues AI raised was “penalizing discrimination based on sexual orientation”.
